Wooden animals

In this section we take all the wooden animal representations that can be found in Asia. Indeed animals have a strong importance in Asia whether in the form of protection like the sacred cow in India, or in the form of proof of wealth with the buffalo in Indonesia or purely decorative like the horse. They all have their importance over the centuries and parts of Asia.

The wood used to make the objects under this heading is very varied. Depending on the country, the desired object, the sculptor who will make these works selects the wood used. In Burma, for example, the wood used is mainly teak. Indeed the specificity of teak is that it is very hard, therefore more difficult to carve, but it allows the sculptor to carry out finer and more delicate work without risking breaking the piece of carved wood.
